Identidad ‘española’ y traducción cultural: el ejemplo del enciclopedismo español en la época de la Ilustración

Abstract

The article focusses on phenomena of cultural translation and their relations to collective identities. Using the example of the transfer of the genre of the modern encyclopaedia from France to Spain during the long 18^th century, it is shown how such cultural translation phenomena are influenced by the norms of the target culture and become the site of self-assertion processes. The analysis shows how cultural transfers may be read as an expression of collective identities.
