Asamblea ordinaria (2016) by Julio Fajardo Herrero, a novelist from Barcelona, and La línea del frente (2017) by the young Basque writer Aixa de la Cruz are two recent crisis novels that reflect the belief held by many representatives of the younger generation of Spaniards that the profound effects of the global economic crisis of 2008-12 are still felt in Spain today. The protagonists of these novels feel isolated because of their feelings of shame arising from their precarious economic situation. They are unable to reach out to other victims of unemployment for support in hard times. Asamblea ordinaria and La línea del frente demonstrate that crisis literature, a genre that came into existence with the collapse of the global financial market in 2008, remains of great interest to readers today.
