Abstract

Solange du lebst (1955), directed by Harald Reinl, is a German film set during the Spanish Civil War and shot in Andalusia. Through a fictional plot centered on the love story of two young people, the film addresses a politically sensitive topic for both postwar Germany and Francoist Spain. This special issue provides historical and cinematic context for the film and analyzes its production circumstances, its critical and political reception, and the cultural relations between Germany and Spain during this period.
